Services
 
Transportation is provided to Lakeville Elderly, Elderly Handicapped & Non-Elderly Handicapped five days a week. The van is equipped with a wheelchair lift. It operates from 8:00 AM until 3:30 PM. The morning and late afternoon runs are for Day Care clients. We ask that you make your appointments between 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM. The van operates in Lakeville and Middleboro and is available for grocery shopping, medical appointments, hairdresser, banking, and errands. We ask that you book your appointment at least one day in advance. The cost of the van is $2.50 round trip, or you may purchase a Van Pass for $10.00 (good for 5 round trips).

Meals on Wheels are provided for homebound clients who qualify for this service. Volunteer drivers deliver meals 5 days a weeks. Weekend meals can be provided and are delivered on Fridays. The cost of the meals is $3.00

per day, and the money is collected weekly. All meals are low salt, and diabetic meals can be ordered. This is a great volunteer opportunity. We are always looking for volunteer drivers. Drivers are reimbursed at $.40 per mile

Loan Closet

Durable medical equipment is available for loan. This includes wheelchairs, shower stools, walkers, canes, etc. There is no charge , we do ask that you return the equipment when you no longer has use for it. We gladly accept donations of good used equipment.

Library Services

The Senior Center is the Handicapped Annex for the Lakeville Free Public Library. You may come to the Senior Center and we will order books for you, or you may use the computer at the Senior Center and order your books. When the books come in you may pick them up at the Senior Center, or we will deliver them to you. The Library also maintain a rotating book selection at the Senior Center. You may choose the book and sign it out. When the book is returned you simply sign it in. Donna Tibbetts, the Lakeville Library Director, changes the selection of books frequently. There are a variety of books to hopefully cover the interests of many.

SHINE (Serving Health Information Needs of Elders)

Free health insurance counseling is provided by trained Volunteer Counselors. The counselor will help you to understand what Medicare covers, what Medicaid is, what supplemental health insurances are available, if you are eligible for assistance,

and much more. They will not recommend coverage, but will show you what is available. You need to make an appointment by calling the Senior Center (947-7224). At that time we will set up an appointment that is convenient for you and the counselor. Sometimes the appointments are at the Senior Center, and sometimes they are home visits.

 

Fuel Assistance

This program is available to elderly and non-elderly who are income qualified. Applications are taken from October through February. You need to call the Senior Center to set up an appointment to have your application taken. For seniors who qualify for this program there is a monthly discount given on their telephone bill.

Blood Pressure Clinics/Screenings

Monthly Blood Pressure Clinics are held the first Thursday of each month from 9AM until noontime. This is FREE, and in addition to blood pressure, a medical profile is taken. An annual Flu Clinic is held in October. Periodically screenings and seminars are held for Glaucoma, Prostate & Breast Cancer, etc. All special screenings and seminars will be noted in the monthly newsletter, Lakeville PONDerings

Trips

Day trips, and some overnight or longer trips are planned throughout the year. These trips are listed in the newsletter. The trips are open to everyone. If you would like a list of what is scheduled and the prices, please call the COA office.
 
Are You OK?
 
A FREE computerized telephone service provided by Plymouth County Sheriff's Department, the Lakeville Police Department, and the Council on Aging. when you are enrolled for this program, you will get a daily computerized call. If there is no answer after the 2nd call, the local police will be dispatched to your home. Further information, and the application are available at the Senior Center.
