The Office Manager started working with the town in 1973., the Junior Clerk in 1994, and a newly created position of Field/Clerk was instituted in August of 1998.

This office contains all records of the town's valuation, and is responsible for obtaining data on every piece of real estate and personal property in town and must set values according to the Commonwealth's Laws, Chapter 59 of the General Laws.

Exemptions are available to qualified seniors 70 years of age, widows and widowers, blind persons, veterans receiving at least a 10% war-service connected injury compensation from the VA. Also available is a tax deferment for persons age 65, impoverished and infirmed (all three qualifications must exist). Please call the office for further information.

The Town of Lakeville is on Quarterly Tax Billing. Taxes are due August 1, November 1, February 1, and May 1st. Abatements can only be applied for when the ACTUAL bills are issued on December 31. Tax payers have 30 days to apply.

Abatements for motor vehicles may be applied for within a two year period after the bills are issued. At the present time (January 2000) taxpayers may apply for abatements until December 31, 2000 for the 1999 motor vehicle excise bills. Please read the pink statement in your bills for information needed to apply for an abatement.

Our office is responsible for setting the tax rate annually. This consists of preparing a Recapitulation Sheet to the Department of Revenue for their approval. The town sets its values on January 1st, and holds an Annual Town Meeting sometime around May, then sets the rate in the fall.

If you have a question on any of the above, the staff will be very happy to answer all your questions during our office hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9AM until 4PM.
